Questions and answers
Starting a job
How do I get a quote?
Contact us or call. Tell us what you have, roughly how much, where it is, and whether any of it is controlled or holds data. A photo or a list helps. We reply with a written quote.
Is there a minimum amount?
There is no fixed minimum. Controlled goods and data jobs are often small. For recycling, tell us what you have and we will tell you the sensible way to get it here.
Do I need a contract?
No. A first load can be a single quoted job. Regular customers usually move to standing terms.
Who will I deal with?
The person who handles your kind of material. Controlled goods, data and IT go to one managing partner, metals and solder to another, and moves and storage to our Ottawa team. The contact page shows who.
Pickup and shipping
Where do you pick up?
Our own trucks and drivers pick up across Ontario and in Quebec.
We are in another province. Can we still use you?
Yes. Material is accepted from across Canada. Outside the area our trucks cover, you ship to our Orillia facility and we help you plan it.
How should material be packed?
On skids, in boxes or in bins if you can. If it is loose, or it is on an upper floor, tell us and we bring what is needed.
Can we drop material off?
Yes, at the Orillia facility during office hours. Call first so we know to expect you.
What we take
How do I know if you take something?
Search the material finder. If it is not there, ask.
Do you take batteries?
Yes. Tell us the type and roughly how many when you get in touch.
Do you take material from the public?
Our services are for businesses and institutions. Members of the public can sell gold and silver to EDI Refining and buy used electronics at the EDI Electronics Outlet.
Paperwork and proof
What paperwork do I get?
It depends on the job: a receiving report, a settlement report, a certificate of recycling, a certificate of destruction and a serial-level audit report. The paperwork page explains each one and shows a sample.
Which certifications do you hold?
Our Orillia processing facility is certified to R2v3, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, valid to 2029-02-07. EDI is registered with Canada's Controlled Goods Program, valid to 2029-05-29. Numbers and scope are on the certifications page.
Can I get documents for a vendor file or a tender?
Yes. Certificates, proof of insurance and workplace safety coverage are sent on request.
Do you refine precious metals?
No. Precious-metal-bearing material is collected, sorted and sent to accredited refiners.
Cost and timing
What does a job cost?
Every job is quoted in writing. What moves the number: how much there is, access in and out of the building, when the work can happen, what the items are, and what can be resold or recycled for value, which is credited against the job. What drives the cost explains each one.
How long does a job take?
It depends on how much there is and on the building's rules. The schedule is agreed with the quote, and built back from your date when you have one.
Working in your building
Can you work evenings or weekends?
Yes. Work can be scheduled outside business hours when your building or your operations call for it.
Will you send what our building needs on file?
Yes. We send a certificate of insurance and our workplace safety coverage clearance for the building's contractor file.
How do you handle the freight elevator and the loading dock?
Tell us the building's rules, and the crew and the trucks are planned around the times you can book.
Still have a question?
Ask the person who handles your kind of material.
