The record you keep

The Controlled Goods Regulations require a registered company to keep records of the controlled goods it receives, transfers and disposes of. For a disposal, the record has to describe the manner and the date of disposition. Those records are kept for as long as you are registered and for 5 years after.

Our certificate of destruction is written to answer that. It names the lot, the items, the method, the date and the place, and it comes from a company registered with the program. Your Designated Official files it and the disposal is documented. You can look at a sample certificate before you send anything, and the guide Disposing of controlled goods: the records to keep explains the rule in plain words.
